What is an EPC payment QR code
The EPC QR code is a European standard for SEPA credit transfers in euro. In Germany and Austria it is known as GiroCode, and it is also used in Belgium, the Netherlands, Finland and other countries. The code stores the recipient, IBAN, amount and reference. The payer scans it in their banking app and the transfer is filled in. They only confirm it. No mistyped IBANs, no missing references.
Where it helps
- Invoices: put the code next to your bank details and clients pay from their phone.
- Rent, fees, memberships: one code with a fixed amount and reference every month.
- Donations: leave the amount empty and let people enter what they want.
- Tradespeople and small businesses: an alternative to a card terminal for larger amounts, with no card fees.
Good to know
- The generator checks the IBAN checksum and warns you about a wrong digit. Still, test-scan the code with your own banking app before giving it to clients.
- Not every banking app supports EPC codes. Print the IBAN as text next to the code too.
- The amount is in euro. If the field is empty, the payer enters it.
- The code only fills in the transfer. We take no fee and never touch your money.
